    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

When considering the following premises, a society must take a decision whether it finances safeguards spanning from the production to the feeding of the by-products of slaughtering or based on its safety needs accepts the financial losses due to restrictions on utilisation. In weighing the consequences, which extend far beyond the field of food hygiene and often result in compromises, the argument of cannibalism has shown itself to be less than helpful.
