    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

Infectious Bursitis Disease (IBD), Gumboro) and Chicken Infectious Anaemia (CIA) are infections with important influence on the immune system especially of broilers. In the present study we described the influence of the two diseases on the immune system of chicken. Sera of broilers flocks in Germany were investigated for antibodies against both diseases using comercially available ELISA-Kits supplied by GUILDHAY LTD. The titres of antibodies of broilers and their breeders and the results of broiler production were compared. During the two years of investigation there was statistically no influence of the level of antibodies or immunization on the production. There was no clinical or subclinical infection. As a result of this study it has to be pointed out that management of broiler production is an important point with great influence on the results. The conditions on a farm need to be optimised concerning the technical construction of the housing and the prophylaxis of disease using different management and disinfection strategies. The immunoprophylaxis and the timing of vaccination depending on he maternal antibodies against IBD is discussed and we point out the importance of the knowledge of the epidemiological situation during the daily work.
