    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

The present study deals with the establishment of a laboratory method suitable for the evaluation of the sensitivity of the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bouche}) against imidacloprid. This method should serve as the basis for a resistance monitoring program under field conditions. For this purpose, several flea populations were examined by three different laboratory methods with he aim of a standardization of the test procedure. The "Artificial Dog", which is an artificial feeding system for fleas, proofed not to be a useful method. On he one side, it was not possible to reach standardized conditions to ensure the reproducibility of the results. On the other side, the emplementation of the test was very complicated. The "Filter-Paper-Test" is a suitable assay for the evaluation of the sensitivity of adult fleas against imidacloprid. The test is easy o perform and prooves to give comparable results even if the test is repeated several times. The "Larval-Bioassay" is a useful test for the evaluation of the effect of imidacloprid against larval stages. Together with the "Filter-Paper-Test", the "Larval-Bioassay" can serve as a basis for the establishment of a resistance monitoring.Currently the "Larval-Bioassay" is a standardized procedure for the worldwide monitoring under field conditions. For this reason, it is established in serveral laboratories worldwide. As supplement to this assay the development of the "Filter-Paper-Test" is driven forward.
