Our results provide evidence that activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells increase in RAO-affected horses in peripheral blood (PB)and produce cytokines in PB. Decrease of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in BALF in RAO-affected horses could represent two possible cell types. CD4 and CD8 double negative a,ß T-cell receptor (TCR a,ß)- positive cells or g,d T cell receptor (TCR) cells. High BALF CD4+/CD8+ ratio in RAO-affected horses due to more decreased percentage of CD8+ lymphocytes.
