The effects of experimental procedures like ,weighing",Injection", restraint- and ,,perforation of the external ear" onthe blood concentration profiles of ACTH, TSH,testosterone, epinephrine, norepinephrine, doparnine, glucose, lactat, LDH and CK in male Wistar-rats wereobserved. In a preliminary study the effects of inhalational andinjectable agents and cervical dislocation on hormonal andmetabolic parameters were also examined. The inhalation Of C02, which was used during the mainexperiments, resulted in an significant increase of the bloodconcentration of ACTH, epinephrine and norepinephrine.Small or no observable effects were seen on TSH,testosterone, dopamine, glucose, lactat, LDH and CK.The hormonal and metabolic parameters were influenced bythe four experimental procedures in different ways:Increased concentrations of ACTH were found 5 min after, weighing" and Jrjection", I to 15 min after jestraint", and 15and 60 min after ,earperforation".Increased TSH concentrations were found I min afterweighing". In contrast o significant effects were observedfollowing the three other manipulations.Increased testosterone concentrations were found in a greaterdistance to manipulation: 60 min after ,weighing", 120 minafter ,injection", and after ,earperforation" in a distance of 5min and 60 min. In contrast there was no observable effect ofjestraint" on the blood concentration of testosterone. There were no effects of ,weighing" or jestraint" on the bloodconcentration of glucose. But ,injection" or ,earperforation"increased the glucose concentration aher I to 15 minrespectively 5 min.Increased concentrations of lactat were found I min after, injection", jestraint" or ,,earperfomtioW" and 5 to 15 minafter ,weighing".Jrjection" or ,earperfomtion" caused increased LDHconcentration after 15min. In contrast increased LDHconcentrations were not to be found before 120 min after,,weighing". ,Restraint" had no effect on the bloodconcentration of LDH.There was no apparent effect of the four experimentalprocedures on the blood concentration of CKThe effects of the four manipulations on the blood concentration of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine are described without statistical significance because ofthe different and lower quantity of analysis:,,Weighing" caused increased epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations after15 min.Jnjection" caused no alterations on he blood concentration of epinephrine- In contrastthere were increased norepinephrine levels after 30min, and increased concentration ofdoparnine after I min to be found.Increased epinephrine and norepinephine concentration were observed I and 60 minafter jestraint". Dopamine was elevated after 5 and 60 min,,Earperforation" caused increased epinephrine and norepinephrine levels afterI respectively 5 min. Dopamine was elevated after 5 and 30 min.
