Abstract / Zusammenfassung

Building human capacity to improve food safety and zoonosis control in Southeast Asia, and, thus potential for rule-based global trade of livestock and livestock products is in increasing demand. The Joint MSc Programme in VPH of the partner Chiang Mai University (CMU) in Thailand and Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) just completed its Master Course with 12 young veterinarians from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. The 24 months course leading to a ?Joint Master Degree? is implemented as ?sandwich? programme with modules sequentially given at both partner universities in the first year, followed by MSc field and laboratory research work in the respective home country of the participants and subsequent result analysis at CMU and FUB. Study topics focused, among others, on risk determinants for parasitic zoonoses (echinococcosis/hydatidosos, cysticercosis, trichinellosis), Campylobacter and Salmonella in poultry, antibiotic residues, avian influenza control, and, along an entire pork production chain, on salmonellosis identification and risk assessment. Experiences made from study design to field implementation and data analysis are reported.
As modular-based curriculum, course set-up and implementation do comply with the quality assurance requirements of the German Accreditation Council, a member of the European Consortium for Accreditation, the MSc Programme has been granted the quality seal of accreditation.
