    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

In conventional production amino acid requirement can be met by inclusion of fishmeal and synthetic amino acids into the diet. Exclusion of feeds of animal origin is possible using soy bean meal as protein source in combination with amino acid supply. Following the rules of organic farming (EU-directives) recommendations for Big 6 turkey can be met but need to be paid with high costs for feed, wastage of protein and increased nitrogen pollution. Following more stringent rules for organic farming (German organisations) amino acid supply of Big 6 turkey according to recommendations during the first weeks is only possible at very high feed costs combined with a wastage of protein. In organic farming turkey lines with lower growth intensity and applying diets with reduced protein and amino acids contents are practicable.
