This paper describes the efficacy of reproductive management using Ovsynch in comparison to other protocols for reproductive management. Most studies report an increase in reproductive performance in groups treated with Ovsynch. The difference is greater if the control program suffers from low AI submission rates and decreases with increasing AI submission rates in the control group. Modifications of Ovsynch by using early resynchronization or presynchronization to determine stage of estrous cycle at the start of Ovsynch seem to be promising approaches to further increase the benefit of the protocol. However, they also increase the amount of labour and costs associated with synchronization which raises the question of cost effectiveness.
