The aim of the study was to identify consequences of clinical mastitis (CM) on production parameters including the culling risk of primiparous cows during the first lactation. We included 4395 heifers from 15 farms. During the first month of lactation, 19,3% of the animals suffered from the first case of CM. In the following months, only 2-3% of the animals got a CM. Animals with periparturient CM produced less milk the whole lactation, on three milk test days significantly and had significantly higher SCC. One or more further case of CM occurred in 27% and 14,5% of the cows. The culling risk increased about a factor 1,75.
