    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

In this study, the prevalence of thermophilic Campylobacter spp. in 900 chicken samples from chicken abattoirs of different regions in Syria was determined over a one year period. The prevalence of Campylobacter spp. on broiler skin swab samples was 46%, in broiler liver swab samples 34% and in broiler meat samples 20.7%. C. jejuni was the predominant species with 90.1% of all isolates. No significant differences in the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. were detected between the summer and winter period or between different regions.prevalence of Campylobacter spp. on broiler skin swab samples was 46%, in broiler liver swab samples 34% and in broiler meat samples 20.7%.
