Abstract / Zusammenfassung

After a brief account of the legislative aspects of animal welfare and of rehabilitation of injured birds of prey, this article looks at possible problems in returning raptors to the wild after treatment. Diagnosis and treatment are described and discussed, including the importance of infectious diseases in improving the chances of success, and treatment of fractures. The importance of training of raptors is also stressed, as well as physiotherapy for orthopaedic patients, in improving the success of returning such wild creatures to their normal habitat
