Abstract / Zusammenfassung

The appearance of Bovine Spongiforme Encephalopathy (BSE) was sort of a political scientific earthquake. Once again, agricultural primary production became apparently an important port of entry for biological as well as other agents into the food chain. The economical consequences were tremendous. Finally, the phenomenon triggered new scientific deal with a disease in humans and animals which had not yet been too much understood and which we do now call summarizing as transmissible spongiforme encephalopathy (TSE). During the last years, we had strong measures which we can already today expect to reach their task of controlling the disease.
