    Abstract / Zusammenfassung

Dislocation of the extremities (361 altogether) of 344 animals were ascertained at the Veterinary Clinic and Policlinic for Small Animals, FU Berlin, between 1991 to 1997. Affected were 219 dogs and 125 cats. The majority of dislocations in dogs and cats pertains to the hip joint (55,1%), followed by the carpal (18%), tarsal (13,6%), elbow (8%) and shoulder (5,3%) joints. Dislocation of the articulatio humeri was not diagnosed in the cat. In the majority of cases involving dogs the carpometacarpal articulations (42,9%) were affected, in cats the antebrachiocarpal articulation (43,3%). In the region of the tarsal joint, the dislocation of tarsometatarsal articulations is conspicuous in dogs (48,3%), and of tarsocrural articulation in cats (70%). The direction of the dislocation in the humerus was mainly medial (62,5%). The radius and ulna concerned, it was lateral in dogs (78,6%) and caudal in cats (62,5%). Dislocation of the femur was usually in the craniodorsal direction in both dogs (95,2%) and cats (91,9%).
